The Changing Horses NFP Supportive Housing Complex is a thoughtfully designed community that provides safe, stable, and dignified housing for individuals in need. This transformative project integrates modern, sustainable architecture with a compassionate approach to supportive living. Featuring carefully planned residential units, communal gathering spaces, and wellness-focused amenities, the design fosters a sense of belonging and independence. Natural light, durable yet inviting materials, and energy-efficient solutions create a warm and environmentally responsible living environment. With a focus on accessibility and holistic support, the Changing Horses complex stands as a model for innovative, mission-driven housing solutions that empower residents to rebuild their lives.
APPROACH & IMPACT
The complex is designed with a strong community-centered approach, featuring eight residential units thoughtfully arranged arround a Central Gathering building. This layout fosters a sense of place and belonging, integrating Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) cultural values that emphasize healing, social connection, and communal living. Sustainability is at the core of the design, utilizing prefabricated Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) to create a high-performance building envelope that enhances energy efficiency while streamlining construction on the rural site. This innovative approach ensures a resilient, environmentally conscious living environment that supports both individual well-being and collective growth.
